DIVERSITY OF LIFE | TOMPKINS COUNTY FLORA |
The genus Acorus is often placed in the family Araceae (see, for instance, the treatment by the New York Flora Association). In addition to significant morphological differences, molecular phylogenetic studies have shown that Acorus is not part of a monophyletic Araceae, and is an isolated clade that is sister to either all other monocots or a large segment of monocots. Thus, Acorus cannot correctly be included in the Araceae. |
