CAYUGA FLORA (1926) NOTES: Open thickets and the borders of woods, in dry, thin, sandy or gravelly, acid or at least sterile, soils ; common. Aug. 15-Sept. 25. Generally distributed in the basin where the foregoing conditions obtain ; absent on the richer soils. P. E. I. to Ga., mostly in the mts. and along the coast ; rare inland to Ky., Ohio, and Minn.
