The pulvinus is the swollen thickening, in this case at the base of the costa, where it joins the rachis. It does not have a reversible reflexing action (raising and lower the pinnae) as do the true pulvinae of legumes. Note also the whitish, longitudinally elongated areas along the rachis. Each one has a white pore in the center of it. These whitish elongated areas are for gas exchange (see paper by Holttum's paper (Kew Bulletin, 1978) on A. evecta).
