APG and APG II recognize a broad Sapindaceae that includes Aceraceae and Hippocastanaceae as synonyms. Our classification (YYPG) excludes Aceraceae and Hippocastanaceae based on morphological and recent molecular analyses (see under those families). There is no reasonable justification at this point for abandoning the traditional circumscription of these families (except for transfering the monotypic Handeliodendron from Sapindaceae to Hippocastanaceae, as in the recent Flora of China). |
